DO YOU ENJOY LAGOS TRAFFIC?

THE TRIALS
OF LAGOS TRAFFIC

You have a business appointment on the Island [Lagos], so you leave office with what you think is plenty of time to spare. But you did not count on running into a traffic jam. As the minutes tick by and your car slowly crawls along, you begin to get more and more anxious. Finally, you make it to the appointment a half hour late.

One of the greatest frustrations of Lagos life is traffic, especially the bumper-to-bumper traffic that clogs the streets and poisons the air. Unfortunately, this daily tribulation experienced by thousands of Lagos-city dwellers shows no sign of letting up.

The reason why Lagos roads are clogged is not hard to find. Lagos keep on growing relentlessly, and it appears about half the nation’s [Nigeria] population live in Lagos; other two factors that stare you in the face are: bad roads and reckless, inconsiderate drivers. As Lagos grows, so do the numbers of vehicles. In Lagos it's like: “Too many people own too many cars, and they want to drive them in the same constricted space.”
